Exhibition Opening: Wednesday April 30th, 6-8pm.

Jeannette Christensen (b. 1958) is especially known for works in gelatin, a material that can change in unpredictable ways. In this way, these images challenge painting as a medium and notions about the value and preservation of art.

Christensen was educated at Bergen School of Arts and Crafts, Vestland Academy of Fine Art, and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris in the 70s and 80s. She was a professor at the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts from 2010-2022.

Since fall 2024, Christensen has been a guest artist at REAL kunst, University of Oslo (UiO), which facilitates collaborations between artists and researchers. There, she is further developing her investigations of gelatin from a microbiological perspective. An exhibition based on the meeting between art and science opens at the Science Library UiO on April 25 and runs parallel to the exhibition at LNM. One of Christensen's gelatin monochromes was recently shown in the new National Museum as part of the collection exhibition (2022-2025). The gelatin installation Every Day is a Miracle II was shown in an old salt cellar in Budapest alongside the exhibition Extended Present- Transient Realities at the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, Budapest, Hungary (2022*).

*Christensen's works have been purchased by the National Museum, KODE Bergen, Sørlandets Art Museum, Preus Museum, Public Art Norway (KORO), Arts Council Norway, among others.
