Endre Aalrust (b. 1973, Hamar) is an artist living in Berlin who works in parallel with figurative painting and essayistic short film. Regardless of the medium, his works often thematize feelings such as shyness, dignity and shame, often with elements of both comedy and melancholy.
Aalrust is educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen, Central St Martins in London, Strykejernet Art School and the University of Oslo. He has shown works in a number of galleries, institutions and film festivals including QB, Hos Arne, VIVII, UKS, Fotogalleriet, and Erik Steen in Oslo, Sandy Brown, After The Butcher, KW, Silberkuppe and Dzialdov in Berlin, Saved, James Fuentes Gallery and Daniel Reich in New York, Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Miami, Quimera Galeria, Buenos Aires, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, IFFR, Rotterdam, Rencontres Paris/Berlin, Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife, Brazil and the Short Film Festival in Grimstad. Aalrust has been purchased by, among others, Oslo Municipality, NTNU, Innlandet County Municipality, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Equinor and By Art Matters Museum, Hangzou, China.
