Alina Vergnano, Julius Karoubi & Naeun Kang
Unge inviterte 2024
The 2024 edition of LNM’s annual exhibition “Unge inviterte” invites artists Alina Vergnano, Julius Karoubi and Naeun Kang. All three graduated from Norwegian art academies in 2023 and are primarily working with painting. They all work with the intuitive and with abstraction, sometimes pointing to the figurative.
The monochrome lines in Alina Vergnano’s large scale canvases captures the large gestures of the artist and can themselves be read as bodies in motion. With her use of wet brushes, Vergnano’s lines in dry pastel are given a shadow-like effect that underline this impression of movement.
Julius Karoubi works with mosaic in an intuitive, painterly manner. He combines bathroom tiles, often found in containers or leftovers given to him after refurbishments, with Italian mosaic tiles, creating abstract compositions. They are influenced by logos and shapes that he finds in his surroundings, such as from food-packaging and other leftovers from consumption.
Naeun Kangs colourful paintings reflect upon female experiences relating to fantasies and the body. Through her work, she investigates her own experiences, feelings, or dreams, in encounters or observation of others. It can be a fascination for the cervix, female stereotypes, awkwardness, or cartoonish moments of intimacy. The results are various forms of expression ranging from the subtle to the intense.
LNM’s ambition in hosting Unge inviterte is to provide a window into the next generation of up-and-coming painters. By inviting recently graduated artists with a focus on painting, LNM also provides a platform for artists to exhibit and continue establishing their careers.
