Joel Charles Billekvist

By foregrounding the material and structural conditions of painting—its support, preparation, and often hidden construction—Billekvist’s works explore the thresholds between front and back, interior and exterior. Through experiments with textile and other materials, the works extend painting beyond its traditional two-dimensional premises, allowing it to be experienced as both surface and object.

Billekvist holds a BFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). Recent solo exhibitions include Ditte Lauridsen Gallery, Stockholm (2025); Kösk, Oslo (2025); VRB Gallery, Berlin (2023); and Hos Arne, Oslo (2022).
