Jan Christensen

Jan Christensen (b. 1977) works across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and digital media. Throughout his practice, he has engaged in aesthetic discourse through exhibitions, public art projects, and his work as a curator and art advisor. His artistic practice consistently addresses concepts such as aura, originality, and appropriation. Christensen’s work also frequently points to the artist’s concrete role, allowing for a range of interpretations—from introspection and melancholy to irony or direct criticism of the art institution.

He was educated at the National College of Art and Design (SHKS/KHIO), 1997–2000. In addition to his artistic practice, Christensen serves on the boards of Fotogalleriet, Atelie.art, and Kunsthall Dikemark in Asker, as well as the Ingerid Fegerstens Foundation for Norwegian Visual Artists. He is also an external advisor to the Equinor Art Programme. His work is held in the collections of the National Museum and the Astrup Fearnley Museum. In January 2027, he will curate the group exhibition Acquired Taste at BABEL in Trondheim, and later that year he will present a forthcoming solo exhibition at Grafikk Oslo.
