Hilde Svalheim (b. 1963) lives and works at Ekely in Oslo.
After completing her education at the Oslo National Academy of Fine Arts (1988), she has held solo exhibitions at Kunstnerforbundet, Trafo Kunsthall, Galleri LNM, and BOA, among others. Her work has also been shown in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Henie Onstad Art Centre, and Kunstnernes Hus over the past three decades.
Svalheim works primarily with oil painting and drawing, and her practice revolves around people and their relationships. Not unlike a novelist, she immerses herself in her anonymized characters in an attempt to convey something credible and universally resonant. Svalheim’s works are held in several private and public collections, including the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Arts Council Norway.
